Types of Team Coordination
Coordinated Independent Work
Team of Individuals working independently to accomplish shared goals – like swimming teams. Sometimes individuals need to be left alone to get the work done to a certain stage. Some technical work needs time, space, and silence to get to a presentable point. The Challenge: Creating a single overarching mission, learning how to coordinate & collaborate, course correcting old competitive habits, nurturing proper pride in self and team – instead of individual arrogance.
Hybrid Coordination & Collaboration
Hybrid Teams are necessary when coordinated individual work is best for one part of the project, and collaboration is best for another part of the project. When teams trust each other, and can “badmitten ideas” without fear of being embarrassed … then even creative work can take on a new edge and brilliance. The Challenge: Learning real coordination and collaboration. Teams that run things often confuse the broad mission of the business with the specific purpose of their group.
Full Team Collaboration
Fully collaborative teams are often necessary to create ideas, or come to hard decisions on a most favorable path. Consist of individuals mostly working interactively with each other to accomplish shared goals. The team will only work if most of the members are there. A Board of Advisors, Family Board, or a Board of Directors are classic examples. The Challenge: getting off to a constructive start, keeping the proper momentum, and dealing with the ultimate handoff that’s required to get recommendations implemented. We listen and learn from many types of subject matter experts and advisors to make sure we “get it right”. The most important expert we consult is you. You are the expert on your life, and the best judge on whether that advice fits your life. So everything we work on for you… is through the lens of your values, intentions, goals, and your life. We really want to understand your lifestyle, situation, wants, and needs. Together, we organize and untangle the threads of your financial life. So that you can have more peace about your situation, and we can understand enough to help you get where you want to go. Then, when it is appropriate, we will consult your advisors, and various subject matter experts on your behave. So that we can make sure you are: getting aligned service and advice, getting all you pay for, and aware of the opportunities and optimizations that are possible for your situation. That makes all the strings and threads of your financial lifeline stronger than they could have been alone.
We believe that coordinated collaboration is usually the best path to success. It is looking for the optimized outcome to get to a true win-win-win.
True collaboration: “the synergistic relationship formed when two or more entities working together produce something much greater than the sum of their individual abilities and contributions.” It results in the creation of something that did not exist before. The focus is on results for the client and not just the process. It can be thought of as guided, good faith, cooperation where all parties win.
